Activate Empathy

I've enjoyed playing AOK, a "social game for good," where players share Acts and Observations of Kindness. Last October I scored 114 virtue points for this blog post. You earn points for your acts of kindness that convert into cause currency. One penny for each point goes to real world charities. You are having fun playing a game, contributing to a cause, while increasing society's collective mindfulness!

AOK has made it to the final round in Ashoka's Activating Empathy competition. They are one of the finalists for the prizes sponsored by Mattel for ideas that enhance empathy through play. As a fan, I support their good work and encourage you to check 'em out and vote by leaving a kind word of support here. Just click the "Comment" tab, followed by the "Post a New Comment" button at the bottom. Good luck AOK team!

Ashoka's Activating Empathy: Transforming Schools to Teach What Matters is a global competition seeking solutions that help young people learn and practice empathy in schools.

AOK interview and more on empathy.

Tina, here's an interview with Ira Liss. He co-founded and currently runs AOK, a “social game for social good” played online, on iOS and Android mobile devices and out in the real world. AOK converts player engagement into charitable donations, and offers virtual and real rewards to players that post, share, "like" and comment on Acts and Observations of Kindness.
