Born This Way

I was at Office Depot yesterday buying school supplies with my teenage son when I came across this kiosk from the Born This Way Foundation. This is the foundation led by Lady Gaga that celebrates individuality and empowers young people. The bold, neon colored type on the black background reading >BE KIND > BE BRAVE > BE YOURSELF captured my attention as quickly as my son's text message alerts distract him from the task of searching for a long list of classroom provisions (sorry... had to get that little irritation off my chest and while I'm at it... heads up parents, the high school math classes' are asking kids to buy a $100 calculator! *vent over*). Office Depot has partnered with the foundation selling limited-edition products with 25% of the sale going to the campaign. Not only is this a great fund raiser for the foundation, but sends a message to teens that it is important to accept yourself and others as we are.

Growing up Lady Gaga faced episodes of meanness and cruelty because of her unique individuality and now has committed herself to help make the world a "kinder & braver" place for adolescents who feel like they don't belong.

I really liked the empowerment gift cards and Post-It notes. The cards would make great "thank you" gifts for student aids and what a inspiring message for those canary yellow and carnation pink custom sticky notes! Consider putting these on your back-to-school list and support this positive initiative.
